NEW DELHI: The Centre has identified and standardised 28 places and geographical features in Ladakh by their official place and feature names for inclusion on the Survey of India (SoI) map, the Ministry of Home Affairs said on Thursday.The exercise was carried out in consultation with the Union Territory administration of Ladakh and is aimed at ensuring accurate recognition of the locations and creating greater awareness about them, the ministry said, news agency ANI reported.Standard names for Ladakh’s geographical featuresThe 28 identified locations include peaks, mountains, passes, glaciers, valleys, rivers, lakes, water bodies and land areas.The list includes Atisha Giri, Kanishka Peak, Martand Giri, Zorawar Peak, Rinchen Zangpo, Sakyasri Giri, Marpa Lotsava Ri, Milarepa Kangri, Shiva Ri and Maheshvara Ri among the peaks.Karun Pir, Drak Karpo and Jolmori have been identified as mountains, while Chapchingal Pass and Shachmirk Pass have been designated as passes. Parpik and Skamri have been identified as glaciers, while Shkorga Valley and Yangpa River are also among the features formally recorded.Gogra, Hot Spring among identified featuresThe list also includes Gogra, Dehra Compass, Brangsa, Kuksel, Kumarayana Point, Panglung and Shamal Lungpa as land areas. Guru Rinpoche has been identified as a lake, while Hot Spring has been listed as a water body.
