DEHRADUN: An investigation has been launched to identify and arrest two men who allegedly attempted to abduct a 46-year-old woman on Sahastradhara Road of Dehradun’s Raipur area, police said on Friday.The incident took place around 6.45am on Wednesday when the woman was returning home on her two-wheeler after dropping her daughter at college. The men, wearing masks, were travelling in a black hatchback car without a registration number and allegedly tried to intercept and drag her into the vehicle. The car appeared to be new and had an “applied for” sticker in place of a registration number, police said.A few women sanitation workers who witnessed the incident rushed to her aid. The incident was captured on a CCTV camera, which purportedly showed the woman raising an alarm, before the accused fled the scene.A case has been registered under sections 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 140 (kidnapping) and 62 (attempt to commit an offence punishable with imprisonment) of BNS.Raipur circle officer Vandana Verma said three teams have been formed to identify and arrest the accused. “Police have spoken to the woman, but she has not mentioned any dispute or issue with anyone known to her that could have led to the incident,” Verma told TOI.“Police are examining CCTV footage to trace the car. Our teams have made significant progress and we are hopeful of arresting the accused within the next two days,” she said.
