WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event took place tonight at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. This was the first edition of the vintage show to take place on a Sunday instead of its regular Saturday slot for years. The event featured five top matches that saw an impromptu last minute bout, a new champion crowned, huge return finally coming through and much more. Finally, the night was capped by the hellacious rematch between Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes that saw the Viper leave victorious.
Joe Hendry vs. Dominik Mysterio
The opening match was a last minute addition to the card. The match was enthralling throughout until The Judgment Day ran interference for Dominik Mysterio in the end, allowing him to hit the 619 and frog splash on Joe Hendry to pick up the win.
Lil Hatchy vs. Baron Corbin
This was Lil Hatchy’s WWE in-ring debut and the match against Baron Corbin had a five minute time limit. Although Corbin had dominated much of the bout, the final moments saw Lil Hatchy use a low blow while both were on the top rope and the time running out, giving him the win and Trick Williams a US title match as per the stipulation.
Trick Williams vs. Baron Corbin
Trick Williams got his US title match immediately after Lil Hatchy’s match with Baron Corbin. Following a back-and-forth battle, Williams countered the End of Days and hit the Trick Shot to win back his WWE United States title.
Bron Breakker vs. Oba Femi
This was one of the marquee bouts of the Sunday Night’s Main Event card. Both Oba Femi and Bron Breakker delivered a hard-hitting bout for a claim to be called the future of WWE. However, the ending moments saw the return of Bron’s ally, Bronson Reed, who attacked Femi. Breakker hit the spear and Reed delivered a Tsumani from the top rope giving Femi the win by DQ.
Six-woman Tag Team match
Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley battle Jade Cargill, Michin, and B-Fab. The match was an exciting affair that concluded with Flair and Paxley colliding and Cargill reversing Flair’s Figure 8 attempt into a Jaded to pick up the win for her team.
Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes
This was the main event of the night. The heated tensions led to a hard-hitting bout between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. Ever, Cody’s wife, Brandi Rhodes got involved and threw a drink at Orton. Towards the end, the referee was taken down and replaced by a new one.
