Cox allegedly described the audio as “fake.” Investigators have not confirmed that claim. The original Sea Tow call was released by officials and records a teen asking for help after saying the boat’s bilge pump had stopped working and the vessel was sinking.
Nancy Grace, Tyler Cox claims put Nolan Wells Sea Tow audio under scrutiny
The controversy centers on an enhanced version of the Sea Tow recording discussed by Nancy Grace. It was presented with a transcript suggesting people in the background were saying, “Nolan, don’t die!” The claim became part of the debate over whether Wells was still on the boat when his friends left Horn Island.Sarah Fields said on August 13 that Tyler Cox had spoken with Nancy Grace about the recording. Fields claimed Grace then removed the audio from her social media accounts and said she would not play it again. According to Fields, Cox said Grace gave a simple reason: “Yeah, because it’s fake.”That is still an allegation, not an official finding. The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources released the original call in July. The caller says, “Hey, we’re at the west tip of Horn, and our bilge pump stopped working. We’re sinking. Can y’all please come?” He later says everyone is on board and gives the boat’s location.
Russell Latino, Nolan Wells’ friends challenge disputed audio
Russell Latino, attorney for Bart Edmiston Jr., one of Wells’ friends, questioned the enhanced recording during an appearance on NewsNation’s CUOMO. Latino said there was “no legitimacy” to what he described as a doctored audio recording and transcript.On The Officer Tatum Show, Warren Hudson, Jax Pitalo and Morgan Seymour discussed the disputed audio. One pointed to video from the boat and said the group appeared calm while Wyatt was speaking with Sea Tow.“You put out a clip of the boat while Wyatt was on call with Sea Tow. It was boldly clear that Nolan was not on the boat with us. You can literally see down on the deck, and as you can see in that picture, everybody is completely casual while Wyatt’s on the phone. Yeah, we were scrambling around trying to get the boat fixed, but the boys were all [casual].“If you’d see me in the video, I’m sitting on the bow. If there was someone dying on the boat, why would everybody be sitting there, waiting to either get towed in or… in the first place, why would Wyatt call Sea Tow? It’s crazy.”Those statements do not prove that the enhanced audio was manipulated. Authorities have not publicly confirmed that the viral version is fake, and the investigation into Nolan Wells’ death remains ongoing. Wells’ body was found near Horn Island on July 6, two days after the Fourth of July boat trip. The cause of his death has not been determined.
