A 23-year-old Indian origin woman was strangled to death in Edmonton, Canada earlier this month. Canadian police have charged her 22-year-old Indian origin partner with second-degree murder.The victim, Damanpreet Kaur, hailed from Samrala in Ludhiana district. She was found unresponsive with suspicious injuries at a residence in the Silver Berry neighbourhood on July 9 in Edmonton, Canada. Police found her body after responding to an emergency call.

Kaur was rushed to hospital in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries three days later on July 12.An autopsy conducted on July 14 determined the death was a homicide.

Police withheld the cause initially for investigative reasons but confirmed on Thursday that Kaur had died of strangulation.Ritish Kumar, 22, was arrested on July 22 and charged with second-degree murder. Authorities said the case is being treated as an intimate partner homicide and no other suspects are being sought.A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to cover the cost of transporting Kaur’s remains back to India for her final rites. Nearly $19,700 has been raised so far, the target is $20,000.
