In 2021, Lewis Hamilton had pledged a whopping £20 million to a new charity he founded, Mission 44, which was focused on bringing new opportunities to youth from under represented groups in the United Kingdom.Now, Mission 44 has marked a new milestone as it has reached over 550,000+ young people globally across the UK, US, and Brazil.In a previous interview with ESPN, Lewis Hamilton reflected on pledging £20 million to his charity as he said, “Supporting the ambitions of underrepresented young people has always been important to me and Mission 44 represents my commitment to create real change within this community…”The F1 legend added, “In my early life, I experienced first-hand how coming from an underrepresented background can affect your future but, luckily for me, I was able to overcome those odds through opportunity and support. I want to ensure that other young people from similar backgrounds are able to do the same.Lewis Hamilton continued, “I am so grateful that Mercedes are joining me on our initiative Ignite, with the goal to improve representation within the motorsport industry. The findings of The Hamilton Commission and its recommendations have provided us with a fantastic basis to begin our work. Change within the industry is long overdue, but we are now firmly on the journey towards transforming it for the better.”

For the unversed, the F1 legend Lewis Hamilton was wrongly removed from his school when he was 15 years old. Today, his foundation,Mission 44, works on rising suspension and exclusion rates by funding tailored mentorship and providing school support networks to students across continents.But that’s not all; the data from the Hamilton Commission revealed that less than 1% of F1 engineering roles were held by Black professionals. Lewis Hamilton’s foundation, Mission 44, has worked on awarding motorsport scholarships and brings students directly onto F1 tracks to break into tech and engineering fields.Apart from that, the F1 legend Lewis Hamilton has also met officials at 10 Downing Street to actively push for systemic national framework changes in classroom inclusivity.While the Mission 44 was founded majorly to help Black youths, it has since extended its services to all under represented groups across continents in UK, US, and Brazil.
