Indian-origin woman quits high-paying Deloitte job in Canada, returns to India for ageing parents
Preeti announced that she had resigned from her job and was planning to return to India

An Indian-origin woman has decided to leave her high-paying job at Deloitte in Canada and return to India after six years, saying her ageing parents and her own health are behind the decision.Preeti Bisnik, who worked as a senior consultant at Deloitte in Toronto, announced her resignation in an Instagram video on September 22. She clarified that she was neither laid off nor forced to leave Canada because of visa issues. As a Canadian citizen, she can continue to live in the country, but said she had made a personal choice to return to India.

‘I want to be there for my parents’

Bisnik said her parents were the biggest reason behind her decision. She said her father is ageing, while her mother has been facing difficulties with walking and her eyesight.“I want to go back and train my mom,” Bisnik said, explaining that she wants to help her parents focus on nutrition, fitness and strength training. She has studied nutrition during her time in Canada and plans to use that knowledge to support her parents after returning home.Bisnik also said she did not make the decision because she was unhappy with her job. She described her team and work as “amazing” and said her pay was good. Her manager had even offered her the option of taking a sabbatical before potentially returning to the company, but she decided against it.

‘I just don’t want to work on a computer now’

Bisnik said her decision was also influenced by her own health and fitness journey. She revealed that she weighed around 78 kg when she moved from India to Canada six years ago, but her weight later increased to about 98 kg.She has since lost around 10 kg and said she now wants to take a break from a sedentary, computer-based lifestyle and focus more on fitness and movement.“I just don’t want to work on a computer now anymore. I just don’t want to be in front of a system. I just want to have a life in which I’m working out and I’m moving,” she said.Bisnik said she plans to focus on her parents and her own health for now. She may decide next year what she wants to do professionally, but for the moment, she wants to take a break from work and spend time with her family.
