Houselisting window extended for flood-hit Assam districts
Flood-hit Assam districts Charaideo and Sivasagar get Census 2027 houselisting extension till Oct 31.

NEW DELHI: The home ministry on Thursday extended the window for Census 2027 houselisting operations in Charaideo and Sivasagar districts of Assam, to Oct 31 in view of the flood situation there.As per the original schedule for housing and houselisting phase of Census 2027, the exercise in Assam was to be held over 30 days from Aug 17 to Sept 15, preceded by a 15-day self-enumeration window from Aug 2 to Aug 16. The fresh notification issued by the ministry of home affairs (MHA) on Thursday states that the period of houselisting operations in respect of Charaideo and Sivasagar shall stand extended up to Oct 31.The houselisting phase for the entire country was supposed to be completed by September 30. While the second phase of the census, involving population enumeration, is currently underway in Ladakh and the snow-bound areas of J&K, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and shall be completed by end of September, it has been advanced in the poll-bound states of UP, Punjab, Goa and non snow-bound areas of Uttarakhand. Population enumeration is to be conducted in the four poll-bound states from December 1, 2026 to January 4, 2027, with January 5, 2027 as the reference date.
