SHILLONG: Sonam Raghuvanshi, accused of conspiring to murder her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya last year, surrendered before a Shillong trial court on Tuesday in compliance with a Supreme Court order cancelling her bail.She was remanded to judicial custody after her surrender.Sonam, a resident of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, appeared before the trial court after the Supreme Court on July 23 set aside the bail granted to her and directed her to surrender within three weeks, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said.She was arrested in June last year in connection with the killing of her businessman husband, Raja Raghuvanshi.The couple had gone missing while vacationing in Meghalaya’s Sohra area on May 23, 2025.Raja’s body was later recovered from a deep gorge on June 2.Police have alleged that Sonam conspired with her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, and hired contract killers to murder Raja during their honeymoon for financial gain.On June 29, the Meghalaya High Court upheld a trial court order granting bail to Sonam, dismissing a state government’s plea seeking cancellation of the bail granted on April 27.However, allowing the Meghalaya government’s appeal, a Supreme Court bench of Justices M M Sundresh and P B Varale held that Sonam’s continued release could hamper the ongoing trial and cancelled her bail.The apex court, however, observed that if the trial does not progress and conclude within six months, Sonam would be at liberty to file a fresh bail application.(With PTI inputs)
