AGRA: A day after Congress workers while protesting against alleged manipulation of voter lists had “defaced” the ancestral home of chief election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar in Agra, a case was registered under BNS sections of “attempt to murder” and “rioting” and six party members were arrested and sent to jail on Tuesday.The protesters had allegedly scrawled abusive messages in Hindi aimed at the CEC. They had also demanded his immediate removal from office.Police later removed the graffiti. Monday’s protest was part of the party’s nationwide stir. Congress also purportedly posted the Agra stir visuals on its X handle.Based on a complaint by local sub-inspector Gaurav Gupta at Agra’s Hariparwat, an FIR was registered under BNS 121 (voluntarily causing hurt), 126 (wrongful restraint), 132 (criminal force against a public servant), 333 (house trespass), 351 (criminal intimidation) along with sections 109 and 191 against eight named and 15-20 unnamed party members.A statement by Agra police said: “On Monday, Congress functionaries Anil Yadav and Mukesh Dhangar along with associates entered a residential colony in Agra without prior notice and tried to create disorder at CEC’s ancestral residence, where his parents live. A case was filed and six of them, including Yadav and Dhangar, were arrested. A court later remanded them to judicial custody until Oct 3, 2026.”
