Gurgaon hit-and-run case: Kalyan Bainsla, cousin sent to 2-day police custody
The accused, Kalyan Bainsla and his cousin Lovneesh, were arrested from Rajasthan

GURGAON: The two accused in the Gurgaon hit-and-run case, car driver Kalyan Bainsla and his cousin Lovneesh, were produced before a local court on Wednesday and sent to two days of police custody until September 18.Advocate Lalit Bindal, who represents Bainsla, said police sought custody to recreate the crime scene, visit the spot with the accused and ascertain the whereabouts of the co-accused.Bainsla and Lovneesh were arrested in Rajasthan on Tuesday after police launched a manhunt following the incident.A video from Shivani’s bike camera, which she uploaded online, showed her being knocked down near the Sector 55-56 Rapid Metro station after the car allegedly tried repeatedly to get alongside her bike. Her Aprilia RS 457 slid across the road as traffic continued to pass by.After examining the video shared by Shivani, police added an attempt-to-murder charge to the FIR against Bainsla.Police said Bainsla went missing after giving a media interview, following which Shivani uploaded the video and it triggered widespread outrage. He allegedly crossed into Rajasthan with his cousin.Police sources said the two also visited Pushkar before they were caught near Dausa.Bainsla had on Monday given a starkly different account. He claimed a group of 22-23 bikers was riding aggressively, repeatedly overtaking his car and slowing down in front of it.He said Shivani suddenly turned while he was taking a U-turn, leaving him with little time to react.“I tried very hard to avoid the collision,” he had said, denying that he had hit her deliberately or fled when asked to stop at a signal.
