A landslide struck Gaoping town in China’s Jiangxi province, burying more than 10 people, state broadcaster CCTV reported. The incident comes as China grapples with severe weather, with Typhoon Saudel bringing torrential rain and flooding to coastal areas.Rescue operations were launched after the landslide in Gaoping, with authorities working to locate the people reported trapped. Further details on the condition of those trapped were not immediately available.Typhoon Saudel-triggered floods inundated homes and swept through tea-growing communities in Fujian and Guangdong on Friday. Firefighters waded through waist-deep waters in Fuding to rescue elderly residents, while flooding in Jinxi village brought down a three-storey house. Authorities also closed schools, shut tourist attractions and suspended 24 ferry routes as torrential rain heightened the risk of flash floods and landslides.The latest incident follows the devastating flash floods and mudslides that struck parts of Nepal and Tibet on August 26, leaving a high death toll and dozens still missing. Nepal Police said on Saturday that the death toll had risen to 1,344 as rescue and relief operations continued. The police shared the latest toll in a post on X, while authorities have been dealing with the wider aftermath of the disaster, including concerns over contaminated drinking water and the possible spread of communicable diseases in affected areas.In neighbouring Tibet, the death toll from floods and a mudslide that hit a border crossing between China and Nepal rose to 31, state-run news agency Xinhua reported on Friday. Xinhua said 531 people remained missing following the disaster on the Tibet side.
