Chennai man orders cauliflower from Zepto, gets mostly greens instead: Internet says 'They forgot to send the Cauli and just sent the flower'

A cauliflower order has left a Chennai man furious after he claimed that his Zepto delivery contained more greens than the actual vegetable he had ordered.X user Ashwin Murali shared pictures of the delivery on October 6, showing what he said was around 300 grams of cauliflower greens and just 149 grams of cauliflower.Murali tagged Zepto and its customer-care account, saying he was unhappy with both the delivery and the response he received when he complained.“Ordered a cauliflower from @ZeptoNow @zeptocares. This is how they delivered it! It is better to beg on the streets than this kind of looting!!!! When I complained, the customer bot blatantly rejected & asked to send an email! The main culprit is the lack of proper regulations,” he wrote. The post quickly caught attention on X, with several users reacting to the pictures and sharing their own experiences with grocery delivery apps.

Zepto customer support reportedly rejects refund

According to Murali, he contacted Zepto after receiving the order but was told that a refund or replacement could not be processed. The response he shared said the company had reviewed his complaint and found that the cauliflower delivered was within its quality standards.“We reviewed the details for this concern regarding Cauliflower. While we aim for perfect quality, our verification shows the delivered item was as per quality standards,” the response read.It added that Zepto would not be able to process a refund or replacement for the order.Zepto later responded to Murali’s post on X and said it was looking into the matter.“Hi, Thank you for sharing the details. We’re reviewing your concern and will get back to you shortly. Please bear with us in the meantime,” the company wrote.

‘They forgot to send the Cauli’

The pictures prompted plenty of jokes, with one user quipping, “They forgot to send the Cauli and just sent the flower.”Others, however, said they had faced problems with grocery deliveries themselves. One user claimed they had recently received expired paneer from Zepto, while another alleged that they had received less quantity than what they ordered when buying tomatoes. These are individual claims made by users on X and have not been independently verified.Another user said cauliflower deliveries had been a repeated problem for them, particularly when the listing only mentioned “one piece” rather than a specific weight.“Only Big Basket is satisfactory for veggies and fruits,” the user wrote, while comparing their experience with other quick-commerce platforms.

Users question online grocery shopping for fresh produce

The cauliflower complaint also turned into a wider discussion about buying fresh vegetables online. Some users argued that customers should be able to see and select their own vegetables, particularly when it comes to items such as cauliflower, tomatoes and other produce where size and quality can vary.“Sorry but we need to stop relying completely on online shopping. Go to the market and get what you like,” one person commented. For Murali, however, the issue was less about online shopping itself and more about getting what he believed was poor value for the money he had paid. His post has since sparked a larger conversation about how fresh produce is weighed, packed and quality-checked before being sent out through quick-commerce platforms.Zepto has said it is reviewing his complaint. As of now, there is no public update on whether Murali received a refund or replacement.
