BELAGAVI: A man allegedly stabbed his friend to death during a drunken brawl over a piece of chicken at Hunashyal PG village in Mudalagi taluk of Belagavi district on August 23, police said on Sunday.The deceased was identified as Sathiram Chandradev, a native of Kabirganj village in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh. The accused, Arunkumar Balishtar Chavan, is from the same village. Both were working at a steel factory in Hunashyal PG.Belagavi SP K Ramarajan said four to five workers were having chicken and liquor in the shed where they lived when an argument broke out between Sathiram and Arunkumar over the quantity of chicken.“Arunkumar accused Sathiram of taking more chicken and stabbed him in the chest with a knife lying nearby. Sathiram suffered severe bleeding and died on the spot,” the SP said.After the incident, Arunkumar allegedly took Sathiram’s body to the government hospital in Gokak and told doctors that he had fallen while welding, apparently to conceal the murder.However, police noticed a deep injury on the chest and became suspicious. A detailed inspection of the spot and investigation established that Sathiram had not died after falling from a height.The Ghataprabha police subsequently cracked the case and arrested Arunkumar. The knife allegedly used in the murder has also been seized. Further investigation is underway.
