Kannur toddler dies five days after anaesthesia for cut lip.

KANNUR: An anaesthetist at aprivate hospital in Payyannur, Kannur, was booked on charge of negligence after a one-and-ahalf-year-old died following administration of anaesthesia.Payyannur police registered the case against Dr Anjali Poduval of Baby Memorial Hospital (BMH) in Payyannur, based on a complaint lodged by the child’s relatives.The toddler, Devansh Shouria from Eramam, had sustained lip injury after falling while playing last Sunday. The boy was taken to BMH in Payyannur where doctors advised suturing the wound under anaesthesia.As per the complaint, the child became unconscious soon after the anaesthesia was administered and, later he was shifted to Baby Memorial Hospital in Kannur after his condition worsened.The child passed away while undergoing treatment in the ICU.Meanwhile, the hospital authorities have refuted the allegations, stating that the hospital provided all possible treatment.The incident triggered protest against the hospital. The police have begun investigation into the incident.
