‘Voice of AMU’ page under scanner over abusive posts targeting teacher from northeast
The faculty member formally approached the AMU proctor’s office, demanding the immediate takedown of the offending posts, and the arrest of those behind the page.

AGRA: A woman teacher at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was subjected to a relentless online harassment campaign that attacked her personal life, mocked her health and targeted her Northeastern identity with abusive and derogatory remarks.The sustained cyber abuse, orchestrated through an Instagram handle named ‘Voice of AMU’, allegedly circulated false and defamatory posts aimed at causing her severe mental distress and social humiliation. The complainant stated that the harassment escalated beyond personal slurs into a coordinated campaign targeting her regional roots, as well as the wider Northeast community.Fearing for her safety, the faculty member formally approached the AMU proctor’s office, demanding the immediate takedown of the offending posts, suspension of the accounts, and the arrest of those behind the page. AMU proctor Mohammad Naved said the comments against the teacher were highly objectionable. “The teacher’s complaint was forwarded to Civil Lines police station, where a case has been registered,” he said.AMU proctor Mohammad Naved condemned the posts as discriminatory and forwarded the matter to law enforcement.Acting on the complaint, the Civil Lines police station in Aligarh registered an FIR on Saturday evening under BNS sections 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) and 356 (defamation), along with Section 67 (publishing obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act.DSP (Aligarh) Sarvam Singh confirmed the development and said, “An investigation is underway, with the cyber cell analysing digital footprints to track down and apprehend the administrators of the social media page.”
