NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) Monday announced a peaceful march from India Gate to the Delhi Police headquarters on Sept 5, alleging that govt had failed to honour the commitments it made to the protesting youth on July 25 in return for an end to their agitation.CJP said it would march with the demand: “Keep Your Word.” The families of the deceased NEET students will lead the march.Survivors of the alleged July 20 police brutality will walk alongside them, followed by students and the youth.CJP had placed before govt three demands. The first was then Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. The outfit also wanted a Rs 1-crore compensation for the family of each student who died by suicide after the NEET paper leak.Govt had said in July that the maximum possible compensation would be given. The third demand was that all cases against the protesting students would be scrapped. The outfit had also asked for a written undertaking from govt on these demands.The decision on the march was taken at CJP’s national working committee meeting, called to review if the Centre and BJP/NDA-ruled states had fulfilled the commitments made on July 25.The committee expressed “serious doubts over whether govt intends to honour its word at all”, the outfit said in a statement.CJP alleged that instead of implementing the commitments, govt has played “delay games, hidden behind technicalities”, while “refusing to give clear commitments even before the Supreme Court”.It cited the Aug 18 Supreme Court proceedings, saying the court had repeatedly asked the Union govt to provide the list of FIRs registered across the country against the protesters, but “govt refused to give a clear commitment to do so”.The party also said its “written assurance from govt to CJP is also due”.Announcing the return to the streets, CJP said: “Our patience cannot be mistaken for weakness. Our good faith cannot become an opportunity for govt to betray us.”CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said: “We will not accept this vishwasghaat with Gen Z, the young protesters, and the families of those who died.”
