NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) extended its support to the INDIA bloc’s November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan against alleged electoral irregularities. In a statement, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said the exercise had raised serious concerns about the exclusion of eligible voters and accused the Election Commission of undermining the democratic principle that citizens, not governments, should decide electoral outcomes.“The fundamental principle of democracy is that people get to choose their government, not that the government gets to choose its voters,” Dipke said, adding that Kumar had “lost the trust required to oversee free and fair elections”.He also invoked BR Ambedkar’s role in framing the Constitution, arguing that universal adult suffrage was intended to give every citizen an equal say in the country’s future, regardless of caste, religion, gender, education or economic background.

“The idea was simple: bring more citizens into democracy, not keep them out of it,” he said, calling on constitutional institutions to protect eligible voters’ rights. The CJP’s backing comes as opposition parties step up their campaign against the SIR ahead of the November 1 rally. On Wednesday, INDIA bloc representatives in Delhi alleged that the revision had disproportionately affected poor workers, tenants and residents of unauthorised settlements, and demanded that eligible voters’ names be restored. The opposition also cited alleged irregularities in voter records and sought a return to ballot paper-based elections. The bloc has maintained that the exercise risks disenfranchising legitimate voters.
