LUCKNOW: At least 81 people have lost their lives, and 62 others have been injured so far as incessant rain battered large parts of Uttar Pradesh between Sept 25 and Sept 27, causing widespread destruction across the state.The state has also recorded the deaths of 154 animals, while damage to crops is still being assessed.According to a situation report prepared by UP Relief Commissioner Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod’s office, Sitapur was the worst-affected district in terms of fatalities, reporting seven deaths. Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich and Balrampur recorded five deaths each, while Ayodhya, Maharajganj and Gorakhpur reported four fatalities each.Among the injured, Hardoi reported the highest number of injuries at seven, followed by Mainpuri and Shravasti with five each. Four people in Barabanki and three each in Sitapur and Lakhimpur Kheri also suffered injuries in rain-related incidents.A total of 154 animal deaths were reported across the state, with Hardoi accounting for the highest number at 28.Property damage was extensive, with 2,254 houses reported to be damaged.The report said that Uttar Pradesh received an average of 66.5 mm of rainfall during the 48-hour period against the normal 7.6 mm, representing 775% excess rainfall.Out of the state’s 75 districts, 56 recorded “large excess” rainfall. Farrukhabad registered the highest rainfall deviation at 7,385% above normal, followed by Kannauj (5,664%), Shahjahanpur (4,408%), Hamirpur (4,240%) and Mahoba (4,100%).“Assessment of crop losses is still underway as district administrations continue to carry out rescue, relief and damage assessment operations in affected areas,” Yashod said.
