A five-foot-long snake was revived after it was found unconscious inside a tank containing chemical-filled water at an industrial unit in Gujarat’s Vapi. An animal rescuer reportedly performed artificial respiration on the reptile for nearly two minutes before it began showing signs of recovery.The incident took place on Friday at an effluent treatment plant (ETP) at India Gelatine Company Limited (IGCL) in the first phase of Vapi GIDC in Valsad district.According to local reports, the snake had entered the industrial premises and accidentally fallen into a tank containing chemically contaminated water. It was found unconscious after apparently coming into contact with and ingesting the water.Company officials then contacted animal welfare volunteer and snake rescuer Sanjay Pawar.
Snake found unconscious in chemical water
Pawar reached the spot and removed the snake from the tank. The reptile was reportedly unresponsive at the time. He then began efforts to revive it, administering artificial respiration for nearly two minutes.After initially showing no response, the snake gradually began to move and eventually regained consciousness, according to reports.The rescue was captured on video, which later circulated on social media. The footage shows Pawar attempting to revive the snake after removing it from the chemical-filled tank.Following its recovery, the reptile was taken away from the industrial premises. Reports said it was subsequently released in a forested area after being kept under observation.The rescue also exposed Pawar to the contaminated water. According to local reports, he was kept under medical observation for around 24 hours as a precaution.There are differing descriptions of the snake in local reports. Some have identified it as a Dhaman, or rat snake, and described it as non-venomous, while other reports have referred to it as a venomous snake.
Two cobras rescued on the same day
Pawar and his team also rescued two cobras from different locations in Vapi on the same day.One cobra was reportedly found at an open plot near Chalna Bhathala Party Plot, while another was rescued from a company premises in the Daman Ganga Industrial Park.The incidents come amid frequent encounters between snakes and human settlements or industrial premises in areas where open plots, factories and surrounding habitats are located close to one another.The unusual rescue in Vapi has drawn attention because of the effort to revive the snake after it was found unconscious. The video shows Pawar continuing the artificial respiration until the reptile began responding.Wildlife rescuers advise people not to attempt to catch or handle snakes themselves, particularly when the species is unknown. In such situations, trained snake rescuers or local wildlife authorities should be contacted.
