'India has entered 2nd phase of semiconductor journey': PM Modi at Semicon event

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said India has entered the second phase of its semiconductor journey, asserting that the country has achieved in four years what the world generally takes a decade to accomplish.Inaugurating Semicon India 2026 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, Modi said India was now moving from building semiconductor capabilities to commercial chip production. He said the country’s semiconductor journey was a continuous process and that chip manufacturing was a “never-ending journey”.Modi said India’s growing capabilities in chip design, manufacturing and related technologies were increasing the world’s trust in the country. He said the presence of global companies at Semicon India reflected growing confidence in India’s semiconductor ecosystem.The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s focus on developing young talent for the semiconductor industry. He said students were being trained in chip design and were getting opportunities to design chips themselves, underlining the role of India’s youth in the country’s semiconductor ambitions.
