Motherhood has given Ayesha Curry some of her happiest moments, but it has also tested her in ways that were difficult to hide. Her third pregnancy in 2018 brought repeated hospital stays, severe sickness and exhaustion while she was preparing to welcome another child with Stephen Curry. Years later, those experiences helped her understand motherhood differently.By 2024, Ayesha was expecting her fourth child and looking back at those earlier pregnancies with a different perspective. She had learned that being a strong mother was not about doing everything herself. Sometimes, it meant knowing when to slow down, accept help and give herself some grace.

Ayesha Curry pushed through five hospital stays, severe sickness and a difficult road to motherhood

Ayesha’s third pregnancy became difficult almost from the start. In February 2018, she explained that she was dealing with hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe pregnancy condition that can cause prolonged nausea, vomiting and exhaustion. The symptoms also took away something that meant a lot to her. Ayesha had built a career around food, yet she could barely eat or cook. In a Feb. 2018 blog post, she wrote, “For the past 4 months, I’ve barely been able to eat let alone cook. The mere smell of food averts me.” She admitted that the situation had put her “in a funk” and added, “I am truly very, very sad.”The struggle did not disappear quickly. On April 6, 2018, Ayesha revealed that she had already spent five hospital stays since the beginning of the year. Giving an update on Instagram, she wrote, “I’ve had 5 hospital stays since the New Year and have pretty much been sucking at life.” She then added that she felt she was finally starting “to turn a corner.”That was a brutally honest look at what she was going through. Yet Ayesha kept moving forward and eventually welcomed her son Canon on July 2, 2018. The baby arrived earlier than she and Stephen expected, turning a painful pregnancy chapter into one of the family’s biggest moments. But another health challenge followed. On October 5, 2018, Ayesha underwent surgery to remove her thyroid and a cyst. From her hospital bed, she shared an update that simply read, “All went well. God is good. Thank you for your prayers.”Two days later, Stephen Curry also reassured reporters. After the Warriors’ open practice at Oracle Arena on October 7, he was asked about Ayesha and said, “We’re good,” before adding, “Thanks for asking.”

Ayesha Curry eventually learned that asking for help could make motherhood easier

Those experiences clearly stayed with Ayesha. When she became pregnant with her fourth child in 2024, she approached motherhood with a much different mindset. In an interview published on March 1, 2024, Ayesha admitted, “I was really stubborn in my earlier pregnancies. And that hurt me in the end. It made things really hard on me.” She then explained the lesson those experiences had taught her: “I had to learn to put my pride aside and realize it was okay to take help, to have people around me help and to not shy away from it.”That was not just about pregnancy. Ayesha had started thinking differently about motherhood as a whole. She explained that she could not do everything alone and said, “I know I can’t do this alone, it truly takes a village.”She also spoke about how that village keeps changing. “There’s always people coming in, people leaving, and people here forever. And that’s okay,” Ayesha said in 2024.That is where her story becomes more than a celebrity pregnancy story. Ayesha went through severe sickness, five hospital stays, childbirth and surgery, but she did not come away believing that strength meant carrying every burden herself.Instead, she learned to accept support. As for Ayesha, that may have been the biggest lesson of all. A mother can be strong while admitting she needs help. In fact, sometimes that honesty is exactly where her strength begins.
