Asian equities presented a mixed picture, with gains in some markets offset by declines in others. The Nikkei 225 was up 157.93 points, or 0.24%, at 65,427.26, while Taiwan’s benchmark advanced 391.47 points, or 0.83%, to 47,497.25. South Korea’s Kospi rose 91.3 points, or 1.31%, to 7,045.82. Shanghai’s benchmark also gained, with the Shanghai Composite rising 4.562 points, or 0.12%, to 3,945.113, while the Shenzhen index added 32.819 points, or 0.24%. At the same time, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng declined 55.9 points, or 0.22%, and Malaysia’s benchmark slipped 0.15%. Australia’s ASX 200 fell 0.18%, Singapore’s STI declined 0.75% and New Zealand’s NZX 50 dropped 0.14%.
