The Nepal Army rescued a Chinese national alive from a hydropower tunnel on Saturday, 10 days after floods hit the Himalayan nation’s Nuwakot town.“Rescue of foreign national alive from surang of Apar Trishuli,” the Nepal Army posted on X, referring to the Trishuli Hydropower Station in Nuwakot. The post also included a visual of him being brought out of the tunnel.The man was pulled alive from a 225-metre tunnel (about 738 feet) and is undergoing a health assessment. Images showed him being evacuated by helicopter, with an army medic checking on him during the flight.He was later confirmed as a Chinese citizen by the Nepal Prime Minister’s Office, the Associated Press reported.The Nepal Army also rescued a woman alive from a house, officials said. She is being airlifted to the capital, Kathmandu, for treatment.On Friday, two Nepali workers were rescued alive from the Trishuli hydropower project, bringing the total number of workers rescued from the site to three.About 900 workers are missing from 12 hydropower projects across Nepal, with roughly 500 believed to be trapped in various tunnels, according to authorities.At least 1,300 people were killed in the August 26 flash floods, which were likely caused by a glacier collapse, and more than 5,000 remain missing, according to Nepal’s disaster management agency.
