She was born to Robert Lee Parton Sr. and Avie Lee Owens Parton and, from an early age, lived in a middle-class household. They lived in a small cabin near the Great Smoky Mountains, and while her mother was a homemaker, her father used to work as a tobacco farmer and construction worker.Parton was interested in music from a young age and started off by performing in churches and learning music from her relatives. Over the years, she often credited her uncle, Bill Owens, as one of the biggest and most influential mentors in her life, who helped her find her footing in the industry.
