Rs 20 lakh Chinese stock dispute, violent outburst: CBI charge sheet details Twisha Sharma’s final hours
Twisha’s family leveled accusations against Samarth and his mother, citing cruelty and harassment

BHOPAL: A disputed Rs 20 lakh investment and a plan to put the money into Chinese stocks emerged as a key point of disagreement between model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma and her husband Samarth Singh shortly before her death, according to the CBI chargesheet filed in a Bhopal court. The CBI alleged that Samarth repeatedly pressured Twisha to transfer Rs 20 lakh kept in her demat account to his account for investment in the Chinese stock market.Twisha refused, saying the money belonged to her father, after which the dispute allegedly intensified.Samarth wanted the Rs 20 lakh investment in equity shares moved to a joint account. The pressure over the money continued even as Twisha was caring for her father after he suffered a heart attack in March 2026, the chargesheet alleged. The alleged financial dispute formed part of the mental and psychological cruelty that the CBI has attributed to Samarth and his mother, Giribala Singh, a retired district judge. The agency has chargesheeted both in connection with Twisha’s death on May 12, invoking provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to cruelty by a husband or his relatives, abetment of suicide and common intention.According to the chargesheet, the digital trail on the evening of May 12 began at 7.51 pm when Twisha called her sister-in-law Rashi Abrol. She allegedly told Abrol that Samarth was pressuring her to transfer the Rs 20 lakh investment for putting it into the Chinese stock market, but she had refused.More than 34 attempted calls and exchanges between the two families followed that evening as Twisha’s mother tried to contact Samarth and Giribala, according to the CBI.At around 9.20pm, Twisha called Abrol again while crying. She allegedly said she had asked Samarth to sleep in a separate bedroom because of her “back pain”.The call ended abruptly after an alleged violent outburst from Samarth. When Abrol called back at 9.29pm, Twisha was reportedly sobbing before the call was disconnected.Seven minutes later, at 9.36pm, Twisha sent her final message to Abrol: “Ask him to collect left over of his wife. But tomorrow. Let me die in peace right now,” according to the chargesheet. The CBI alleged that Twisha’s financial concerns were accompanied by other forms of alleged mental harassment.Samarth mocked her professional setbacks, including allegedly telling her that she had lost her job because she “did not even know how to speak English”.Twisha’s family had accused Samarth and Giribala of mental abuse, physical violence and dowry-related torture.Twisha’s brother Ashish Sharma said the CBI chargesheet had provided factual details about the alleged cruelty and mental harassment she faced.“All of that made it clear that she was left with no option,” Ashish said. The CBI said CCTV footage from the house allegedly showed Twisha going alone towards the terrace at around 9.40pm.A minute later, she made a final WhatsApp call to her father. During the call, she was crying and allegedly told him that Samarth had become “very aggressive and violent”.She also asked her family to come to Bhopal immediately. Her final outbound call was to her mother, Rekha Rani Sharma, at 10.05pm. Twisha again spoke about Samarth’s alleged aggression before the call ended.Rekha Rani then made several calls to her daughter without receiving a response. She also tried contacting Samarth and Giribala, but neither responded immediately, according to the agency. The CBI said Giribala answered at 10.10pm after earlier calls went unanswered. Rekha Rani told her that Twisha had been crying heavily.CCTV footage allegedly showed Giribala leaving her room at 10.16pm to check on Twisha. After finding the ground floor empty, she called Twisha’s phone at 10.18pm, but there was no response.Five minutes later, CCTV footage allegedly showed Samarth and his mother heading towards the terrace, where Twisha was found hanging by a “gymnastic belt”.Samarth then took her to AIIMS-Bhopal and told authorities that she had hanged herself at home at around 10.20pm, according to the FIR. Doctors declared Twisha brought dead. The post-mortem examination and a subsequent review by a board of medical experts from AIIMS Delhi concluded that Twisha died by suicide.“The cause of death is asphyxia as a result of ante-mortem hanging, which is suicidal in manner, produced by the examined ligature material, the gymnastic belt with a ring. No other injuries of medico-legal importance found on the body of the deceased suggestive of assault/scuffle prior to death,” the chargesheet said. The CBI said it is still awaiting complete forensic extraction of data from Twisha’s and Samarth’s phones as well as CCTV DVR footage from Giribala’s home in Bhopal.
