BIJNOR: Heavy rainfall caused a section of the Ganga Expressway between Faiyaznagar and Sahdara Milak villages in Hasanpur tehsil to “sink”, raising concerns over the vehicular safety on the newly developed highway. A minor portion of the road developed a depression and pothole-like damage following rainfall, according to locals. On the evening of Aug 14, the affected spot was noticed. As soon as information about the damage reached the authorities, the expressway maintenance team was rushed to the spot. Workers inspected and immediately began repair work. The road surface was restored soon after. A purported video showing workers carrying out repair work at the spot was also shared widely on social media.Officials said the problem was limited to a small section of the expressway and that the maintenance team responded promptly. The repair work was completed soon after the damage was detected, and traffic on the expressway is currently running normally, they added. An engineer at the UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), who did not wish to be named, said that such issues can occur at some stretches during the rainy season. He added the department keeps a watch on the expressway and sends maintenance teams whenever any problem is reported.
