Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla appealed to opposition parties Monday to call off their protests in Parliament after parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju conveyed govt’s agreeing to a discussion on student protests and a statement by home minister Amit Shah, but in vain.Sources said Birla noted at the meeting of the business advisory committee, which includes members of different parties and decides the upcoming agenda for the House, that govt had agreed to opposition’s “main demand”.“In view of this, the members were requested to participate in discussions instead of resorting to disruptions and to present their views on issues concerning students,” he said.
