An Indian national is wanted in Canada for allegedly posing as a psychic and spiritual healer to defraud a victim through a scheme that exploited fears of supernatural harm.According to the Toronto Police, 29-year-old Gangadhar Babu is accused of operating the fraud between April 2024 and September 2025 under the name “Babu.” Investigators allege he presented himself as a psychic, fortune teller and spiritual healer while running a business called Indian Psychic and Spiritual Healer.Police allege Babu gained the victim’s trust by exploiting their belief in the supernatural before claiming that they and their loved ones faced death or serious harm unless they continued paying him for spiritual protection.Investigators said the suspect allegedly used elaborate rituals and repeated threats to persuade the victim to hand over money while following his instructions.Babu is wanted on charges of fraud over $5,000, possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5,000 and laundering proceeds of Canadian crime.

Police believe suspect returned to India

Police told CTV News Toronto they believe Babu fled Canada and returned to India after the alleged fraud. He is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall with a slender build, dark curly hair, dark brown eyes, a trimmed beard and a noticeable gap between his front teeth.Toronto police believe others may have been targeted through the same alleged scheme and are asking anyone who thinks they may have been a victim to come forward. The investigation remains ongoing.
