Their children also had to adjust to life with divorced parents, a transition that both Shaq and his eldest son, Shareef O’Neal, have since discussed openly.Looking back, O’Neal admitted the divorce created distance between him and his children before they eventually rebuilt those relationships. Speaking on the expediTIously podcast, the Hall of Famer acknowledged the emotional toll his decisions had on his family.“In all of that, I’m just happy and blessed that they’ve forgiven me. Because me and my babies didn’t talk for a while.”He added that those experiences changed the way he approaches fatherhood today.“I’m teaching my boys to be better than me. Papa was a Rolling Stone. You don’t need to be like me.”His eldest son, Shareef, later offered his own perspective on the family’s difficult period. More than a decade after her divorce from O’Neal, Henderson entered a new chapter. In 2022, she married Houston pastor and author Keion Henderson after dating for two years, beginning a relationship she has frequently described as peaceful and effortless.Speaking to PEOPLE after their first year of marriage, Henderson said the difference between her current relationship and her previous marriage was evident in everyday life.“Newlywed life is amazing. I love this guy, and the best part about it is he’s my best friend.”She continued by explaining why their marriage feels so natural.“We enjoy each other. We enjoy being around each other. We enjoy talking to each other and loving each other. So, it’s easy.”Keion Henderson offered a similar perspective, saying he felt an immediate connection from the day they met.“It’s been easy.
