While tech layoffs cross 1 lakh in US, Europe's biggest technology company is offering employees $20,000-plus bonus if they stay until 2030

ASML is reportedly offering employees a $20,000 retention bonus if they stay in Europe’s biggest technology company from 2027 until at least 2030. According to a report by Seeking Alpha, the bonus will be given on January 1, 2027 and vested on January 1, 2030. The announcement comes as US-based companies cut a total of 139,156 in 2026 so far, per Challenger, Gray & Christmas. Confirming the plans to the publication, a company spokesperson said “ASML is in a period of continued growth and development, as reflected in our latest quarterly results”. “In the first half of the year, we took several important steps, including announcing plans to further expand our capacity in 2027 and 2028 and raising our outlook for 2026. At the same time, we continue to invest in innovation, including in lithography, support for 3D chip architectures, the application of AI in our systems and software, and a range of transformation programs, including our Technology Transformation and IT & Data Transformation initiatives. In light of these developments, and in recognition of the important role employees have played in ASML’s success to date and will continue to play in the future, the Board of Management has decided to grant all eligible employees worldwide a one-time conditional share award with a value of €20,000,” the spokesperson added.As quoted in the report, the spokesman revealed that the shares will be granted on January 1, 2027 and will vest on Jan. 1, 2030. Details of the grant, which will come in stock, are still being finalized but will be made available to “all eligible employees,” the Dutch company added.

ASML not the only chip maker to offer bonus

ASML is not the only chip company to offer a significant bonus to some or all of its workers. Samsung offered nearly 75% of its employees a bonus of around $370,000 as the company benefited from the growing demand for AI infrastructure.Its rival, SK Hynix, gave employees bonuses of about $477,000 this year and is reported to pay nearly $900,000 next year. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) CEO C.C. Wei announced in May this year that the company’s employee profit-sharing payouts would increase by more than 30% on average this year.
