JAIPUR: A senior teacher, Saraswati Meena, at the Government Senior Secondary School in Liwali village of Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district, was suspended by the state education department following serious complaints against her. Officials said locals had alleged that students were strip-searched after the teacher found that Rs 500 was missing from a Class 9 classroom. However, officials from the district education department said the allegations were found to be false. Meena Kumari Lasariya, chief district education officer, Sawai Madhopur, said, “After learning about the incident, we immediately probed the matter and found that the allegations against the teacher were false. Only the bags of Class 9 students were checked in the classroom, and the checking was carried out by a few students assigned by the teacher. The teacher did not conduct any checking herself. We also spoke to the students, who said the same.“ Lasariya said a further investigation would be conducted to determine whether any of the allegations made by the locals had merit. “Even though we have not found the allegations to be true, Meena has been suspended as the department’s image has been affected due to this incident,” Lasariya added.
