WWE star CM Punk recalls a terrifying incident with Chris Jericho for disrespecting the Brazilian flag

WWE star CM Punk, in a candid conversation, recalled a terrifying WWE Brazil incident, which was one of the most frightening moments of his WWE career. Speaking about the event, Punk revisited a 2012 WWE live show in São Paulo, where he was involved in a match against Chris Jericho. During the contest, Jericho grabbed a Brazilian flag, crumpled it, and kicked it across the ring in an attempt to generate crowd heat. However, the act violated Brazilian laws for violating the national flag, which escalated a serious situation. However, he could not recall what exactly he did with the flag. However, he pointed out that Shawn Michaels did something similar with the Canadian flag a few years prior to this incident. This immediately created a chaotic situation with local authorities intervening, and with the members of law enforcement taking the matter into their hands. Punk reports that weapons were drawn as officials demanded an apology before allowing the show to continue. He recalled seeing guns pointed in their direction as the severity of the situation became clear.Speaking about the incident on The Late Run show, Punk stated, “My opponent that night rolled out of the ring and snatched a Brazilian flag from somebody. You know where this is going.” Describing the in-ring fiasco, he added, “The instant this happened, all the sudden, there’s a second referee in the ring. I’m going, ‘Uh, what’s going on?’ The one referee’s talking to [Jericho], the other referee’s talking to me, trying to relay the information. Then our Head of Talent Relations is in the ring, this all happens lickety-split. I’m looking around.” Punk further explained, “Then I turn around, and the ring is surrounded by men in fatigues, and one has his gun pointed directly at me.” (source: WrestleZone)Later, they tried to snatch Jericho up and take his passport. However, by the cover of night, the WWE management got him out of there, and they continued on the tour. Punk also compared the situation with the US, where people get bent out of shape. However, Brazil takes it way more seriously when you do something like burn or desecrate a flag.Despite the chaotic situation, the event ultimately concluded without further issues. This WWE incident serves as a reminder of how cultural sensitivities should be handled professionally during an event.
