NEW DELHI: India is monitoring an incident involving a vessel off the Shinas port of Oman, the Indian Embassy in Muscat said on Thursday, days after a series of attacks on commercial vessels in the region heightened concerns over the safety of shipping routes and seafarers.According to Reuters, the latest incident comes a day after three Indian seafarers were confirmed dead following a US-led attack on a separate vessel in the Gulf region.The Embassy of India in Muscat said it was coordinating with local authorities to gather more information about the incident.“We have learnt of an incident involving a vessel off Shinas port of Oman, earlier today. We are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the local authorities for further details,” Embassy of India in Muscat wrote on X. The embassy did not specify whether Indian crew members were on board the vessel involved in the incident. “M.T. Jalveer 24.52.700N 056.46.00.E LOCATION OF VESSEL @Indemb_Muscat”Meanwhile, Reuters reported that India had acknowledged an incident involving a vessel off the coast of Oman, marking the third such maritime incident this week.According to the report, the US military had earlier attacked MT Marivex and MT Settebello, both of which had Indian seafarers on board.Reuters noted that the Indian Embassy in Oman had not confirmed whether the vessel involved in Thursday’s incident carried Indian crew members.“We are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the local authorities for further details,” the embassy said.Earlier on Thursday, Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal confirmed the deaths of three Indian seafarers who had initially been reported missing following the attack on MT Settebello.“Sadly, three Indian seafarers initially reported missing are now confirmed dead after bodies have been located and identified,” he said.Additionally, India had summoned the US deputy chief of mission after lodging what it described as a “strong protest” over the strike on the vessel.
