UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh quits as Meghalaya cabinet minister

NEW DELHI: United Democratic Party president Metbah Lyngdoh on Saturday tendered his resignation as a cabinet minister from the Meghalaya government. This comes days after 11 of the UDP’s 12 MLAs joined other parties. Eight of the United Democratic Party’s legislators joined the BJP in September, while three others defected to the NPP earlier this month.Lyngdoh said he had submitted his resignation letter to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma after assessing the prevailing political situation and recent developments within the party.Lyngdoh said the UDP’s Central Executive Committee would deliberate on the developments and decide on the future course of action in consultation with party leaders and office-bearers.Rejecting speculation that he was forced to resign, he maintained that the decision was voluntary.
